- St. Martin's, Bošany
We were married in Bošany, Slovakia at 3pm on
Saturday 1st May. Bošany is two hours east from Bratislava (the
capital city, and where the main airport is for Slovakia).
This weekend was a bank holiday weekend in the UK
and in Slovakia, so the guests had both the Sunday and Monday to
recover.
It was a semi-traditional Slovak wedding that lasted for about an hour,
mainly in Slovak and the important bits in English.
- Penzión
DÁVID

The reception
was in Bosany in a beautiful hotel. Sadly, the lovely
chateau that was used as the Presidential Summer Retreat couldn't accommodate
us, but the Penzion David did us proud.
There was much drinking, eating and dancing, until 6am.
Gabi and I retired to bed for 7am, and then had to welcome breakfast guests
at 9am. Some British guests did attempt to catch a flight Sunday morning.
It was messy...
General Information
WARNING:
The local alcohol in Slovakia can be considerably stronger than in the
UK. Beer (Pivo) can be as strong as wine (12%
is not uncommon) but costs pennies, and non-alcoholic beer usually has alcohol
in it! Clear drinks of an oily constitution served in very small
glasses should not be underestimated. Usually one or two will do the
trick, and six will make you comatose. Many of our guests fell foul to
the adverse effects of Slovak alcohol. Well done!
Slovakia
is not Slovenia - so don't ever ask about the war, unless you're thinking
about World War Two. There has been no war since 1945, so please do
read some history about the country before you open your mouth.
Slovakia has an incredibly low crime rate and serious
crime is almost nonexistent. Most of the national
news at the time of our wedding was about Slovakia joining the EU on May 1st, and occasionally
there's a report on the serious
traffic problems when a few cars bump into each other in the middle of a
blizzard.
